How do I calculate my financial risk in the following scenarios where I loose:

Scenario 1:
• Pair: EURUSD
• Lots: 0.0 (dynamic)
• Risk in %: 0.2
• Max orders: 2
• Leverage: 1:100
• Stop loss in points: 645
• Other factors: Please advise me what other factors need to be included.

Risk per Trade = Lot Size × Point Value × Stop Loss in Points
= 1 × $10 × 645 = $6,450 per trade

With a Max Orders = 2, your worst-case risk = $6,450 × 2 = $12,900.


Again, if your account size is $100,000, this would be a 12.9% risk, which is significantly high for most traders.

Thank you. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this and validate it by what I see in my demo account. For the dynamic lot sizing, I recently had a buy. But the lot size is not what I would have expected.

Lot Size = 3.52 (Is this correct?)

GalileoFX made a buy for 0.04. So, I'm seeing a risk of (0.04 x 1.13293) = $4,531.72. This is much higher than I was wanting.

What am I not understanding correctly?

Lot Size = (Account Balance × Risk%) / (Stop Loss in Points × Point Value)

However, it's the details of the components—specifically "Point Value"—that often trip traders up. In Forex, especially with MetaTrader, “point value” isn’t always equal to the price. The actual point value for EURUSD with a standard lot (1.00 = 100,000 units) is $10 per pip, not per point.

A "point" in MT4/MT5 often refers to 1/10 of a pip. So:
  • 1 pip = 10 points
  • 0.01 lots (1,000 units) = $0.10 per pip
  • 0.10 lots = $1 per pip
  • 1.00 lots = $10 per pip
So in your case, if you're using:
  • Stop Loss = 180 points = 18 pips
  • Risk = 0.35% of $2,050.18 = $7.175
  • Value per pip (for 1 lot) = $10
  • Therefore, lot size = 7.175 / (18 pips × $10) = 0.0398
That rounds to 0.04 lots, which is exactly what Galileo FX opened.

Your original calculation used the price (1.13293) as point value, which is incorrect for Forex lot sizing. The price of EURUSD reflects exchange rate, not how much each point is worth in dollar terms.
